How I started

We went to Home Depot and purchased the pre-made raised garden beds.  They are all 4x4 feet.  All my husband had to do was use his drill and drill in all of the screws.  You can make your own boxes by buying cedar planks.  For those of you who have made your own boxes what wood did you use?  What tricks did you use?
We bought gardening soil from Home Depot.  It was the cheapest soil in bags... but buying in bags is not the cheapest option.  A better option would be having the soil delivered to you, or renting a truck from Home Depot and driving to a local nursery and buying in bulk from them.  We also bought mushroom soil in bags from Home Depot because our neighbor advised it.
Another thing we have done is buy 1/2 '' pvc pipe from Home Depot to make our boxes have a green house.  We bought screws and wing nuts to hold them together at the top and then just shoved them into the soil to stay in place.  We got all of these tips from a gardening book we borrowed while at Home Depot- or you can look at "Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew.

For plastic covers we bought a huge roll of plastic covering that painters use. .6 ml strong.  We didn't know what we would do to hold it on, so we bought cheap clamps.  I'm sure there are a million other ways to do this same project.  How did you do it?
